I think we're gonna need a bigger bowl

Halloween Graveyard Brownies

These brownies are “to die for” according to one of my coworkers. This recipe turns fudgy, gooey brownies into an adorable and festive treat! The brownies almost look too good to eat…. almost! I think the best part about these brownies is that you can get creative and do whatever you feel like. This recipe is more like a guideline.

Ingredients:
Brownie mix
Chocolate icing
Chocolate sandwich cookies
Milano cookies or another “tombstone” shaped cookie
Candy corn pumpkins
Chocolate or piped icing
Gummy worms
Ghost peeps

If you want to be fancy, you can make brownies from scratch, but I decided to take the easy route. If you do want to make brownies from scratch I HIGHLY recommend Handle the Heat’s browned butter brownies. If you choose to use box mix like me, prepare it according to box instructions. For an added boost to your cake mix brownies, substitute the water with milk.

While the brownies cook, crush your chocolate sandwich cookies to make your ‘dirt’. You can use whatever cookies you want. I went with the store brand in this case. You can crush them in a food processor or just throw the cookies in a ziploc bag and use a rolling pin to crush them.

While the brownies cool, start on your ‘tombstones’. I used Milano cookies and melted chocolate chips. You could also use icing or decorating gel, or skip the words all together. I melted some chocolate chips in the microwave with 10 second intervals and stirring between. This helps to make sure the chocolate doesn’t burn. I then made a ‘piping bag’ with a square of parchment paper. I wrote out “RIP” on each Milano cookie and laid them on wax paper to harden.

When brownies are cooled, coat with the chocolate icing. Next, generously cover the iced brownies with your cookie crumb dirt.

Now you’re ready to start putting your graveyard together. There isn’t a specific technique or method to this. Do whatever you feel like and whatever feels right to you! I used candy pumpkins, gummy worms, ghost peeps, and spider rings to enhance my graveyard.

For the tombstones, simple push the cookies into the brownies. I used icing to help the ghosts stick to the ‘dirt’, and chocolate to help the pumpkins stick. You could probably just use icing for the pumpkins though or just stick them into the brownies a bit. The gummy worms can just sit on top of the dirt. I simply pressed the rings into the brownies.

Admire your masterpiece, wow your friends/family/coworkers, and enjoy! Happy spooky season!
